Low key place with a traditional authentic Irish atmosphere. Great house-brewed beers and a very diverse selection for the whiskey connoisseur like myself. Excellent pizza that is house made.
The Legendary Monarch Public House
About this place
In Fountain City, The Legendary Monarch Public House reads less like a checklist stop and more like a local table you hear about from someone who already ate there. a family-friendly room frames the visit; a cozy dining room keeps you from rushing the meal.
The cooking favors clarity over trend: pizza, plates built for sharing, and the kitchen's daily strengths show the kitchen's habits more than a marketing list.
Service reads as attentive without hovering - the kind of room where questions about the day's specials get straight answers. Weeknights usually run quieter than weekends. The listing address is 19 N Main St, Fountain City, WI 54629.
That is the Platefolk brief in one stop: The Legendary Monarch Public House in Fountain City, pizza on the table, and a visit that still feels like someone else's good tip.
Before you visit, skim recent neighbor notes on the listing and confirm hours on the door. Platefolk keeps this page as a field guide, not a frozen brochure - the best proof is still sitting down for a meal.
What we value here is consistency: a kitchen that repeats its strengths, a room that does not treat guests like tickets, and a The Legendary Monarch Public House visit that still feels worth the trip across town. Bring curiosity, order something the staff recommends, and leave a short note afterward so the next diner arrives wiser.

Very cool restaurant. Server was very friendly. Dog friendly patio. Great drinks and delicious food! Definitely worth stopping and checking it out!
Moved away 4 years ago and chose to take a friend here on a visit. Never disappoints! Greeted by the owner and welcomed. Had to wander and look at things before sitting down. Packed full of amazing treasures to gaze at. Superb Rubens. This place should be packed with wait lines, but it isn't. Go enjoy it!
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time on Saturday. Food was outstanding! Probably the best meal of our mini getaway!! The decor in the bar was really cool as well! We sat outside, since it was so nice out. Our waitress was very friendly, and understanding that we needed more time to choose our food! I definitely recommend this place if you are near the area. It's a great Irish pub!!
Truly one of the best hidden gems in this area! Our kids beg us to come here and I love that they have so many gluten free options. The atmosphere is unbeatable!
A historic masterpiece; the labor of love restoring this place has been for the 30-year owners is obvious. Add to that the authentic Irish menu from the owner's great-gramdma's cookbook, including house-made corned beef and Irish banger sausages, and this is definitely a destination stop on the Great River Road. The Irish Old-Fashioned is a must try, too.
We had one of the best meals we’ve ever had at the Monarch Public House in Fountain City, WI. It’s the oldest tavern operated under the same name in Wisconsin, est. 1894. They still make the original “Fountain Brew” beer which is definitely worth the visit. We’ll be back again!
